The 2008-2009 season will be the CYC Raiders 22nd year; we anticipate an eventful season continuing in the Raiders tradition of excellence.  Our competitive teams have a season that runs roughly  from April through April/May of the next  year.

Right now our teams and coach are in full competition mode and our athletes, teams and families have been working hard at practice and on the road competing - to GREAT RESULTS.  Check our News page for details.

JOIN THE TRYOUT & CLINIC EMAIL LIST

Please join The CYC Raiders All Stars'  EMAIL TRYOUT & CLINIC  INFORMATION LIST.  We send out about a dozen emails to this list each year with clinic, tryout and class information and invitations to our dress rehearsals; plus updates on open house dates.  This IS different than the class contact information emails we're providing for those with 4 - 6 year olds.  It is only rarely that the VERY YOUNG are ready for the competitive teams that our program offers.  Read on...

ARE YOU READY FOR COMPETITIVE CHEERLEADING & DANCE TEAMS?

All athletes, AGE APPRORPIATE, are expected to display extended focus, have a willingness to work hard and a exhibit a desire to participate.  Each family must decide when their child athlete is mature enough to begin the competitive, traveling cheerleading program.  That age when sustained focus & concentration are demonstrated and there is an understanding of "team commitment" and if the athlete has true desire, that is when an athlete MAY be ready ... if they REALLY want it.    It means sacrifices to meet team commitments.  Practices are required.

COMPETITIVE TEAMS are NOT for every athlete.  Each parent knows their child best - Dorothy knows CHEERLEADING ABILITY best.

CLASSES

Please contact our volunteer "Team Mom" Mrs. Patti Uttech to obtain class information for young beginner cheerleaders and "pom dancers."   She'll notify you via a special email of classes being added to the schedule.  She will keep a special list with contact info. just for the very beginners.

All athletes in the class program are expected to enroll in the spring and other program instructional clinics; the clinic experience is important for the youngest ones, so they get an opportunity to not only try out new things, but to SEE things done.

Classes will be offered sporadically throughout the year.  The gym is closed when we are on the road competing as the coaches are away with the teams.    Each season, the beginners decide how much, or how little their "rec/class" program wants to do - maybe they can handle a little local competition, or maybe they will be showing off to family and friends at our dress rehearsals.  We try to serve the needs of the children interested in participating each particular season; we're here FOR THE ATHLETES.  Each season brings different athetes, many, despite being the same age, are ready for different things, each developing coordination and stage presence at their own rate.  Even siblings - one may have been competing at 5 or 6, yet another sister may not have joined a competitive team until eight or nine years old.  Parents - you will have to judge what the athlete is ready for and what YOU are willing to do.  We have had a competitor who was in pre-school before - she just had that personality, coordination and skill ability to handle it.  (This webmaster has one child who did not like the competitive team despite being older, yet another daughter thrived on the intensity from 2nd grade.)  The most important thing is to make the decision - and then stick with it for the season; if you commit to a team - your teammates are depending on you.

WE'RE DIFFERENT

You'll find our scheduling very fluid to meet requests of interested families and the availability of Dorothy Wentland to oversee the offerings.  Remember, this is not a business, we're not an "open gym" offering calendar quarter classes.   We work things out around the competitive cheerleading and dance season AND the school year.   There is a lot of "juggling" going on to make it work best.  If you have more specific questions on classes for the 4-6 yr. old age group, do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Patti Uttech at jimandpattiu@aol.com or (262)694-3810.
